Trackpoint stop working (randomly) with pics

#1 Post by evolancer13 » Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:36 pm

(title says it all)- Been almost a week and cant seem to figure out whats going on, whether its software or hardware issue (or both?) When i go to Thinkpad configuration, you can see that that "track point" is green and on automatic
Image
and when i go to Mouse properties- Ultranav, the track point options are unchecked
Image
also when i hit FN-F8 (ultranav device settings), and click on the first option "enable track point and touch pad" it does not stay on that option, it always goes back to the 3rd option "disable track point"
Image
also, when i try to launch ultra nav wizard i get a error message saying "track point is disabled from BIOS", I went to BIOS and under keyboard/mouse everything is on the "automatic" setting, nothing is disabled.
Image
I had tried recently to uninstall all ultranav related things from add/remove programs and reinstall them, but I had trouble installing the ultranav wizard, i got an error message
Image
I do not know what to do anymore but I guess its a hardware issues as of right now. I have a T43 that is inactive (broken screen) and sure that the track point works, is there a way i can get that to my T60? (switch keyboards perhaps?)
-Thanks

Your title needs a warning for large pictures...and no the T43 and T60 do not use the same KB.

Go to DEVICE MANAGER and delete the TrackPoint driver. Let Windows reinstall it...then report back.

Did you try restoring back to a date when it was working OK?

Good luck.

Sure...it won't hurt anything. If Windows does not re-install the correct driver then go back and reinstall your Lenovo driver.

Did you do a restore back to when it was running OK? Starting to sound like a keyboard is in your future. At least they do not cost a fortune.

Good luck...

I dont remember when it was the exact last day it worked but i might just restore it to like 2 month prior to this day, okay if anything i guess i can buy a replacement keyboard. But if it was hardware and software was fine, then wouldnt the track point would be able to be enabled?

Try booting a Ubuntu disk...if that does not work it is the KB.

Download the Ubuntu .iso file, then using any burning software capable of it, burn the .iso image to disc (not a copy), then boot with the CD in laptop.

No...you are not installing it...just boot the CD and watch to see if it works. Follow the directions on the link I sent you.

You will be fine.
