X41T broken power jack - serious buzzing - help!

#1 Post by thinklogic » Wed Dec 22, 2010 9:40 am

The power jack on my X41T is seriously loose, and almost always "buzzes" seriously unless I torque the power plug into some odd configuration. It almost always buzzes when the laptop is NOT charging, and then stops buzzing when it's finally reseated and the laptop then suddenly starts charging again.

I've already pulled the mainboard out and looked at it, I didn't see any obvious broken solder joints - so it must be a broken jack?

My main question: can I buy an X41T power jack off digikey/mouser, or do I have to hunt down a busted mainboard off ebay? I am comfortable with a soldering iron/desoldering so that's not the problem.

Or does anyone here have a spair?

NOTE:I've also fussed a lot with the power plug itself to ensure that the power prongs are connecting. This seemed to help a bit, however the jack is still loose as if I wiggle the plug a lot the status will go from charging to not charging,

Ubuntu 10.10 - I love it!
