T410s are they still cracking?
T410s are they still cracking?
I just pulled the trigger on the T410s I'm skipping Sandy Bridge. I am however very concerned about the T410s cracking. I've heard it's very common and I really don't have the time to deal with it. Has Lenovo addressed this, are newer models experiencing these cracks on the palmrest?
Also how is the screen? Some say it's fine some say it's horrible, I know it's subjective, but what are your opinions on the screen?

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
AFAIK, there have been no chassis changes from the T400s to current T410ss (i.e. no, they have not addressed it.)surechap wrote:I just pulled the trigger on the T410s I'm skipping Sandy Bridge. As far as I know, there has been a new palmrest w/ new FRU that addresses this problem:
Types that are affected:
T400s (MT: 2801, 2808, 2809, 2815, 2823, 2824, 2825)
T410s (T410si (MT: 2901, 2904, 2907, 2912, 2924, 2926, and 2928)
Palm rest w/ FPR (FRU 75Y5573 replaced by 45M2371)
Palm rest without FPR (FRU 75Y5577 replaced by 45M2370)

Yea I know it's German and I just happen to speak it
So this above should fix the problem with the palm rest cracking at around the corner of the laptop.

Thank you so much. It's good to hear that Lenovo does care.misc wrote:As far as I know, there has been a new palmrest w/ new FRU that addresses this problem:

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
Absolutely. I don't read German, and the English side of the forums left me with the impression that the units hadn't been changed. I wonder what they changed?surechap wrote: Thank you so much. It's good to hear that Lenovo does care.

I don't read German also, I just used google translate to translate the text. Pretty much new palmrest with new materials and new screws.
Re: T410s are they still cracking?
I am a bit in doubt, "types that are affected" - does that mean the above written types have fixed palm rest or are the ones with the problem?misc wrote:As far as I know, there has been a new palmrest w/ new FRU that addresses this problem:

Im considering to buy the 2912 T410s model.
Thanks in advance.
Re: T410s are they still cracking?
I have a T400s and sure enough the left palmrest corner came cracked as I bought (supposedly new).
I have just placed a service request via ESC+ and "hope" to have it replaced under warranty. Otherwise I see the part price is $56 online.

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
I had a 2801 for about 1.5 years and now have a 2901 (for about one week) and haven't had any cracking. The 2801 took two or three good drops, too, the last unseating the lower right edge of the keyboard.
As for the screen on the 2901, I'm very happy with it. It seems brighter with better whites and blacks than the 2801. However, the NVIDIA graphics slows boot time. It isn't dramatic, objectively, but with the speed of an SSD boot it feels significant. Between the Windows start-up chime and the login screen appearing the panel goes black and flickers, for 4 or 5 seconds ... The keyboard on the 2901 is also noticeably looser than the 2801 ...

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
An update on this.
After placing the part service request on the IBM website, I forgot about it.
I also spoke to a very kind customer service manager that explained that I would have to either ship or leave the unit for a possibly free replacement.
Next thing, a replacement palmrest shows up at my US address free of any charge. I still have to install it, have carried it in three countries and to be honest, the small crack can even be noticed. Goes without saying I'm extremely happy about my machine.
Thank you Lenovo/IBm !

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
Sorry to open an older thread, but just curious if anyone knows if this:
Thanks for any help.
should actually bePalm rest w/ FPR (FRU 75Y5573 replaced by 45M2371)
Palm rest without FPR (FRU 75Y5577 replaced by 45M2370)
I'm being told from a few parts vendors that the new items are 75Y5573, but I'm concerned that it may just be that they only have the older items in stock.Palm rest w/ FPR (FRU 75Y5573 replaced 45M2371)

Re: T410s are they still cracking?
No problem, lucky I was still subscribed to the thread (I don't come here, ever). I don't have any information on the parts for you, but I can tell you that the T410s that I purchased did develop a hairline crack in between the latch and the touchpad. Very minor, doesn't not effect the sturdiness of the Thinkpad. Only downside to this Thinkpad is a terrible screen, youtube and videos are not it's strong points. Still love the machine for what I use it for school and work.
Re: T410s are they still cracking?
Thanks. Still curious about the part numbers if anyone else knows. I'm really actually looking to replace the non-fingerprint reader palm rest on mine with one that has a fingerprint reader. I just want to get the right part number and get the part that supposedly fixes the cracking problem.surechap wrote:No problem, lucky I was still subscribed to the thread (I don't come here, ever). Re: T410s are they still cracking?
Okay I haven't seen these numbers posted anywhere:
When I took apart my T400s the palmrest without FPR the part number is: 60Y4066 (no cracks laptop made in Feb 2010)
I bought a T410s cracked palmrest with FPR on eBay (to get the reader board) the part number is: 60Y4064
Then I bought a new palmrest shell on eBay for the FPR with part number: 75Y5573
And if you look at the assembly for the new T420s the palmrest is actually one piece together with the speaker grill / keyboard bezel.

I was recently told by ACS.com that the 75XXXXX are the new ones.
