Bluetooth not working in my X61 running Windows 7 OS

#1 Post by sco1984 » Tue Mar 08, 2011 8:19 pm

Hello,

Just received my X61 notebook from US last week. Configured fresh copy of Windows 7 on it.
Tried to apply 2 different Bluetooth drivers for my X61 model from Lenovo web site but installer failed to detect bluetooth device.
Model of my X61 : 7673-4NU
I can see bluetooth light if I run UBUNTU in live mode but not in Win 7.
Googled and tried to download beta drivers but didnt work.
Tried to search for drivers specified by Bill in some old thread >> http://thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=81815 but unfortunattly was unable to find that download.

Any help? :(

Thanks,
Amey.

Have you used the Fn + F5 combination?

On my T60 Windows 7 automatically installs the drivers when i activate the bluetooth module.

I thought system update would take care of all the necessary drivers... am I wrong about this?

It will install all drivers, but the hardware needs to be enabled in the OS by using FN+F5 - I had the exact same thing, I reinstalled vista and it did not recognize the bluetooth untill I enabled it.

It behaves the exact same in 7 too.

I have the same problem. WXP doesn't recognize bluetooth in 7666-36U. When I press Fn+F5 there is no bluetooth, only Wi-Fi. Help me, please.

Hello,

I am just now (but it is late and I must sleep) attempting to solve this problem with Vista. Various research indicates that it is the same problem.

By chance, when using TPFanControl (another story - that controls fan speeds and monitors temperature) I right clicked on its taskbar icon and enabled bluetooth! It can be detected by my iPhone.

Prior to this, there was no bluetooth anywhere, thinkvantage software did not detect it, and installing drivers produced an error that the bluetooth device was 'unplugged'.

But I have not connected it to another device successfully. I will report back soon..

update
I used the bios (press thinkvantage key while booting) to enable bluetooth (i think under security options, saved and exited the bios) and it now appears in the radio hotkey dialogue. Now to install software from Lenovo support.. this appears to be the proper way to enable bluetooth rather than using TPFanControl's access to the BIOS.

another update
I now have bluetooth audio streaming, iphone internet tethering etc enabled. If you have difficulty with connecting a bluetooth device in vista or 7 it appears that right clicking properties of the bluetooth device, and disabling iAP under 'services' for that device will ensure no problems provided that you have the latest thinkpad drivers from the Lenovo Support matrix. otherwise, messages come up demanding drivers for 'bluetooth peripheral device' that don't exist.

Therefore for both win7 and vista (I know this since i use win7 on the mothership home pc)
1. Boot to BIOS and enable bluetooth under security
2. ensure that most recent version of bluetooth software from Lenovo Support is installed, including reinstalling thinkvantage hotkeys
3. use hotkeys to enable bluetooth
4. remove any 'bluetooth peripheral devices' using device manager and also the bluetooth devices menu
5. turn on bluetooth visbility on device, search for it from thinkpad bluetooth menu, add and enter pin
6. immediately right click properties > services on that device and disable 'iAP' internet access point (you can still use bt tethering with iphones or other bluetooth internet access)
7. connect to your paired bluetooth device by enabling services, eg right click 'control' to start audio streaming, or network connections > bluetooth internet for wireless internet.

I hope this works for you and I am sorry to have wasted your time if it does not,

Best regards,

Jameson Rothschild

I've followed several posts, but to no avail. My X61t no longer has bluetooth (there is a simple communications device in the device manager with no driver, FN F5 shows only WiFi and "updating" the broadcom driver also does not recognize the BT radio).

Any suggestions? (there's no BT under security in the BIOS either)

Hello there!

Last week I've been given an X61s-7667. It had a sluggish copy of vista business installed so I decided to format the hd and install windows 7 x86 Enterprise.
I installed all available updates and all drivers and utilities I found at Lenovo's website. Everything works, except the bluetooth. The driver installation halts with a message that no device is found.

Now, I know there is a bluetooth adapter inside the notebook because it used to work under Vista. I also booted from a live Ubuntu DVD and was able to pair my phone!

Any ideas on what could be wrong with 7? I tried the solution from mintxx's post but nothing...

Found a solution, via another (working) machine. It seems that BT gets completely powered off or on through the power management driver.
Uninstalled, reinstalled and now everything works as it should.

Thanks for your time!
