T42 mainboard replace, which option ?

#1 Post by mirobe » Wed May 18, 2011 9:43 am

Hello,

My T42 with readon 7500 has died (which is 99% caused by GPU problem).
I would like to avoid reballing, which costs a lot here where I live or buy another
mainboard.

I can choose between 7500 9000 9600 chipsets... Can I just buy any other than 7500 and avoid the GPU reballing problem in the future ?

I've read somewhere that 7500 chipset is the most problematic.

Thanks!
Robert

Hello,
you can get also T43/T43p motherboard - it's faster (PCI Express graphics, DDR2 SDRAM, ExpressCard slot etc...) but then you'll have to swap CPU & RAM too. You can get 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM for a few bucks ;-) I would forget old ATI 7500 and 9000 graphics, they provides same or worst performance than the newer Intel GMA900 graphics in T43's...
Current: R51e, X240, T30 and T23 (current project)
Previous: T420, T400, T43p Flexview, T40, R52, T43p 14"
My first ThinkPad was 570
