t420 fingerprint LED is on while shut down
t420 fingerprint LED is on while shut down
Hi, I've got my new t420 for like a week and all of the sudden the fingerprint reader stays on while the system is shut down. If I remove the battery and put it back in it is off, but whenever I shutdown either Windows or Linux, the fingerprint reader green LED is still on and if I swipe any finger (I suppose it would also work for other people), the system starts up and boots the OS afterwards. I have tried (at least I think) every option in the BIOS including turning the fingerprint reader completely off, always on usb, and so on ... please help me. It started doing this stuff after I've played with it in windows and linux (both working like a swiss-watch)
Thank you
PS: to my knowledge the fingerprint reader is UPEK Eikon 2 and it does not store any data (unlike my old R400's)

Go into the Security settings in the bios and you'll see the one for fingerprint options
Re: t420 fingerprint LED is on while shut down
I've disabled the fingerprint reader on the security tab. I also have tried changing priority from internal only to external first and it changed nothing

If you're turning off the FPR in BIOS and that light is still on, then you've got me stumped.
Re: t420 fingerprint LED is on while shut down
Try turning off "always on USB"
Re: t420 fingerprint LED is on while shut down
I have tried that ... the t420 has one always-on-even-when-off usb port that I can turn on and off from bios, nothing changed that. What really baffles me is that even restore bios default settings does nothing (I am certain of some changes and they stayed the same) ... One thing that I find really surprising is that this happened without any change in the bios ...richk wrote:Try turning off "always on USB"

Using Windows, start "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and then hit "Settings". There you should find an option called "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button". Disable it and you're done!

Good thing I haven't erased the Windows partition yet
EDIT: I think it's good to say it worked like a charm
