Installing Windows 2000 on a T61 for driver compatibility.
I want to install my Adaptec 1480 PCMCIA SCSI card onto a T61, but the most recent drivers are for Windows 2000. If I can install Windiws 2000, it should allow it to be paired with my Imacon Flextight II scanner.
Then I would follow through with installs of XP, 7, and finally Windows 10. I would really like a modern, 64 bit platform and a useable backup PC for this device, rather than continuing to use an archiac, cumbersome Mac G4 tower whose only purpose is to run that particular scanner.

Have you tried using the Windows 2000 driver on XP? Sometimes it works.

Re: Installing Windows 2000 on a T61 for driver compatibility.
After reading back through some guides on the subject, I discovered the secret to compatibility with the adaptec card in Windows 10 is keeping the machine in 32 bit mode.
First installing from XP to 7, and finally, 10. I suppose starting at 2000 and working forward wouldn't hurt anything.
Not elegant, and a bummer to only run 4 gigabytes of ram, but the footprint of the T61 permanently docked and plugged into the scanner is significantly less than a Mac G4 Tower. The 16:9 t61 machines are easy to come by.

Are they ? That sounds strange since no T61 was ever made in a 16:9 format...
16:10 is what you're looking at. Big difference.

My bad on 16:9. Ahem... "Widescreen".
I found a very good post / guide about using Imacon Scanners, Adaptec cards, 64 bit Windows, and the T61 in specific. There are many varying opinions on the topic. It can be done in a 64 bit Windows OS, but only in 32 bit compatibility mode. Some say special commands and simple software reprogramming will do the trick, while others insist it should be a fairly straight shot. All I know is that I want an updatable machine to do this task and not a 20 year old Mac huffing and puffing just to transfer 50 and 100 megabyte files through a USB 1.0 port.
