Open Office, anyone?

I'm just curious...anyone here use open office rather than the 'traditional' MS Office?

I like the idea of OpenOffice, but it is just too darn slow compared to Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office just "feels" nicer.

Full time, for the last 6 months on linux and windows (when I have to boot windows)......No comatiblity problems. I have to deal with a lot of funky formatted docs too (legal documents). They all come out ok.

I posted an article in this forum a few days ago where OpenOffice was reviewed by The Washington Post newspaper. After reading several favorable responses, just tonight I decided to download and install it on my ThinkPad. I have been a WordPerfect Office user, but occasionally I get Word .doc files that I need to open and read.

I have used OpenOffice 2.0; it is pretty good when it comes to dealing with most applications and documents. I really like the Math editot in it as well; it is way better than Microsoft's Equation Editor. It does seem to run slightly slower than one would expect, but that is OK for now as the load times are pretty much the same as Office 2000.

I have Open Office on my Linux Virtual Machines. It is too slow for me. I also like to have the "real" thing in terms of compatability and general useability, and I am prepared to pay for it (although less expensive might be nice). ... JD Hurst

I used only OpenOffice in the last 2 years, and now I'm using 2.0 on my thinkpad and 1.1 on my linux workstation; it's ok for my light requirements.
