T23 can't charge battery after updating control program.
T23 can't charge battery after updating control program.
Hi,
I have a very serious problem. I decided to upgrade my BIOS and Control Program in my T23. I had downloaded neccesary files from IBM page and started to upgrade. Updating BIOS [to ver 1.18] went OK, then, I updated the Embedded Controller Program [to ver 1.06a]. After that, computer booted OK, but the battery status diode is blinking orange [like as the battery would be empty]. In Win98SE, batery status is "critical, 0%". I dont't now, what to do. After plugging off the AC adaptor, computer goes to suspend mode. The battery is new. Before upgrading, AC adapter was plugged in, battery was fully charged.
It would be great, if anybody could help me.

The embedded controller installation instructions for your situation contain this:
Why IBM is making this recommendation, I don't know, but if you haven't applied the W98SE patch it could explain your difficulty.
(link to the article is http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -US;239887 )Before using this embedded controller program Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, it is recommended to apply the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887.

Thanks for response, but the problem is already solved.
I've downloaded older version of Control Program and downgraded it from boot diskette. I had to pass the battery check procedure by manualy typing flash *.exe program [and passing new flash image as an argument], but everything works fine now. I have 1.18 BIOS and 1.05 Control Program.

It's interesting to see your reply. Reveting to the previous levels was going to be my next response.
Apparently the IBM note about the 1.18 Bios version that "This BIOS version will only work with the Embedded Controller Program Version 1.06a (or higher). Please obtain the additional package, Embedded Controller Program Version 1.06a (or higher), and update the Embedded Controller Program." is not entirely correct.

I had a similar issue with my T23 after upgrading the Control driver from 1.05 to 1.06. I knew the battery was being charged but since the upgrade the battery level light glows yellow instead of green more times than not. After deep cycling the battery a couple of times, the issue was temporarily resolved. Where can I find the 1.05 control driver installer and what good is the 1.06 version?

I've never upgraded to BIOS v 1.18 or Embedded Controller 1.06 and after these posts won't unless something breaks.
