Windows Vista RC1 (5600) on my T43
Windows Vista RC1 (5600) on my T43
Installed last night Windows Vista RC1 on my T43 (2686-M4U). So far, I'm quite happy, some Thinkvantage technologies didn't work. But I can wait for Lenovo's upgrade. I read some the post here before I installed. Saying some drivers you have to install it manually. But, I guess Im lucky. I didnt have to do the manual install thing. RC1 installed the right drivers for all my devices. But comparing notes to others, I got the same result.
Not working:
Access Connection
Intel software for WiFi
most of the Fn+F* keys.
I hove Lenovo releases Thinkvantage softwares for Windows Vista very soon.
Regards to all

I have a T43 also with RC1 installed and I also have the above issues but there is also one device that remains "unknown" in Device Manager.tric wrote:Installed last night Windows Vista RC1 on my T43 (2686-M4U). You might be able to get a clue as to what the unknown device is by running this: http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/
T60 2623-D7U, 3 GB Ram.
Dual boot XP and Linux Mint.

The one device that did not install for me on my T42 (with Vista) was the internal modem. I was only able to install it by choosing update driver and pointing it to the C:\DRIVERS_OLD\MODEM directory on my other hard drive which has XP installed. FYI, I had renamed the original DRIVERS directory to DRIVERS_OLD in XP. I had tried setup.exe, but it returned an error.

Problem solved. Googling on the hardware ID found in the Properties screen of the Device Manager revealed this device to be an "NSC Integrated Trusted Platform Module" for which there is a driver downloadable from IBM/Lenovo.politby wrote:I have a T43 also with RC1 installed and I also have the above issues but there is also one device that remains "unknown" in Device Manager.tric wrote:Installed last night Windows Vista RC1 on my T43 (2686-M4U). Has anyone tried running System Installer in Windows Vista RC1? Also, would the 64MB of graphics memory on my T43 be enough for using all of Vista's features?

64meg video is fine. I have RC1 installed on a T60 with the integrated video and Aero came up fine... looks nice but if there are old programs, Aero turns off and the system reverts to standard display (no transparent frames and previews of open applications when you slide the cursor over the start bar)

64mb is enough Video Memory to run Glass *if* you run in 1024x768. Unfortunately for those who have SXGA+ and a 9600 or x300 from the factory with 64mb, Vista requires 128mb of Video Memory for all resolutions 1280x960 and up. The performance index will spit out a system rating of 2.0 every time regardless of how fast your system is otherwise since the graphics tests Vista does will fail every time with 64mb (it tries to render at 1280x1024 and fails for lack of memory).
In short, requirements for Vista's Aero Glass:
1. DirectX 9.0 graphics card (9600, X300 FireGL T2, FireGL 3200) (7500, 9000, old 9000-era FireGL and all pre-915 Intel Integrated Graphics will not work for Glass)
2. 64mb Graphics Memory for 1024x768. For all higher resolutions, 128mb Graphics Memory is required.
