Client Security Solution Error-Can't connect to TPM (Image!)

On restarts, sometimes I get a client security solution error that says the "there was a problem connecting to the TPM ..." see image below.


Has anyone seen this before? is there a fix? is it a hardware problem or is it a problem with client security solution?

I get the same message on my brand new T60. I wonder if it has something to do with activating the Norton Internet Security functions that came with the machine.

has anyone found a solution for this? i have the same issue. i unistalled and reinstalled client security solution 8. it fails to load if i have norton enabled and after i disable norton it loads but when i try to change any settings i get the message as mentioned above.

i haven't cleared the security chip as i don't know what that does. is it safe to do that?

it could also have something to do with the secure partition which i never use.

try turning norton off and see what happens..

for myself, i never activate the TCM chip..
nor the FPR..
since i'm not trying to blow things up or keep government secrets secret i have no need for such security..

I don't have norton I use Nod32, but I also used to get this message when I used Kaspersky

the thing that i want most to work is the password manager but that's within the client security service which is not working. any ideas?

i still havent been able to solve this error. can anyone help? i tried reinstalling css8 and rr4 but and disabled the symantec anti virus from startup but i still get the error and can't get the css to work : (

Same problem here. I have long since uninstalled Norton. Currently I am using Avast.

I have gone to the BIOS set up a number of times and confirmed that the TPM is enabled. I think I have done everything but that flush the encrypted memory option. I was afraid I might lose something important. Anyone try that?

Same problem here. Seems to pop up about once every other boot (thus rebooting always cures it). Seems to be less likely to happen if I wait for HDD to stop chattering before logging in (during boot process).

Am using TMIS'07 firewall, but turning it off makes no difference to this bug.

Don't want to turn off TPM because I use it for BitLocker under Vista Ultimate. TPM seems to be working because I am able to boot up (without it BitLocker wouldn't allow booting), but then when the ThinkVantage Password Manager system tray utility loads, the error message pops up and the Password Manager won't load. Nothing critical, but the Password Manager is very convenient (my password file is 147pp long).

Actually, this happened to me when I upgraded to Vista.
It has nothing to do with the firewall or antivirus. Rather, you have to reset the security chip, and "take possession", or take control of it again. You need to open the tpm manager.

I found the solution in this forum, but I can't remember where the link is. Just look for it using some variation of those terms, and I am sure you will find it.

Oh, I found it. In the search box, look for tpm.msc, open, and you will be able to clean the tpm. Here's the link for further information. I hope this helps.

I have seen this before on my T60p and the solution was to clear (reset) TPM chip in BIOS.

In my case, I had reverted to factory settings and TPM still contained previous certificates and led to CSS being unable to communicate with TPM.

I am not sure behind the logic of this resolution for those who have a brand new machine and facing this issue... but worth a try
