T61 arrives tomorrow: What should I do?
If interested in some objective comparative testing on how many of the various antivirus products compare, check out http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/e ... 008_02.php
and http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/e ... 007_11.php
According to those tests, it looks to me like AVG did very well on detecting known malware when performing on demand scanning, however, it does not appear to do so well on proactively detecting threats. Judging by those tests, it looks to me like NOD32 provides better overall performance. But I would still recommend the free version of AVG for people like my wife or mother who need a product that requires minimal user configuration.

I think that must be a typo or translation issue if the non free antivirus product is not called whatever they listed. Without going back and looking at it again, my recollection is they listed the Grisoft product as AVG AntiMalware. I don't think that is the same as AVG AntiSpyware. I also doubt AVG Antispyware would score as well against viruses as whatever they tested did. Also, I doubt the guys that run that site would be so foolish as to test a pure anti spyware program against anti virus programs. But, I suppose anything is possible.

Well you would think so. Being professionals they should call it by the correct name, whichever product they are testing. Calling it by a name that does not exist makes the comparison hard to understand. Grisoft now has a version 8 out. I wonder how much different it is from 7.5?pae77 wrote:I think that must be a typo or translation issue if the non free antivirus product is not called whatever they listed. The report I read from AV comparatives clearly said:
Report in PDF format.AVG Anti-Malware includes the AVG antivirus engine and AVG antispyware engine.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
