T60, Vista Ultimate, ThinkVantage, Access Connections
I was wondering if anyone that was using Access Connections was using any other program to see what wireless networks were around? When I have used Access Connections, it seems that since I use a certain SSID, it doesn't look any further than that. Am I missing something? Just curious to see what other networks are around and specifically when I am not using the one already set up. I looked at Netstumbler but it appears that it has problems with Vista and the other that I looked at was Vistumbler. Any opinions?
Thanks
Thanks

Access Connections itself does not show any indicators if it finds other wireless networks in range, by itself. But while travelling, I often use the "Find Network..." feature to find and connect to hotspots.coflyer wrote:I was wondering if anyone that was using Access Connections was using any other program to see what wireless networks were around? To use Access Connections to find any wireless networks within range, all you have to do is Open Access Connections and click on the icon labeled "FIND" in the upper left hand corner of the Access Connection screen. It will then show you a graphical display of all the networks your wireless raido can see and whether they are encrypted or not, as well as other details about the networks.
If you don't have the Find icon displayed, you can look under the "tools" menu in access connections and click "find wireless networks."

If you want a more forensic level of information on available networks you could try Vistumbler (you may need to skip past an ad to get to the real linked page).
But in my experience it won't show you any networks that you couldn't basically "see" using the Access Connections "Find" capability!
Cheers,
Bill B.
