ibm thinkpad icons
B/c Lenovo provides the same icons as IBM used to except billion times worse...
and also at 48x48, the icons get really rough,
I made the improved versions of the icons & made 1 additional icon myself.
Take a look.

thanks for taking interest in my work!

Use Firefox to download (I hear that there are several popups) but it is not a dangerous site.
You have to wait about 43 seconds for download to start.
I had worked 2 more icons. It also has a pdf instruction to change the icon of certain folders such as My Music, My Pictures, and My Video.
The main reason is because it's impossible to change them with the usual method.
Also take a look at my thinkpads.com support community index.doc, which has a lot of hints and solutions to certain problems that I found.
I posted that on another thread. Thanks again!

It's free to use (you don't even need to credit me). Just something I made up after using your "My Computer" icon as the autorun icon on a new drivers and utilities CD I created for my T40....you could use it for My Computer.

update on the 4 major thinkpad icons (prob. best for windows xp)
I edited them (my computer, my documents, my network place, & recycle bin)
so they don't look ugly at graphics options lower than 32MB
they now have modes in true colors, 256 colors, & 16 colors, in addition to the winXP mode
the links is here

This is amazing.....I did the same icon! I used some of the model images posted to Flickr for the Lenovo blog and I was inspired by that IBM png icon pack that was posted awhile back. Did you do those too? I use MicroAngelo and used the multiburner image for my burner, and the Travelstar cutaway for my C drive. They are so great.weinelb wrote:It's free to use (you don't even need to credit me). Maybe someone can do them in full Vista size too?

i'm glad that the previous icon pack inspired you. show us your icon then.
ok. i realized i didn't program 24 x 24 for non winxp (setting less than 32 MB)
so it doesn't look good on the start menu without minimum of 32MB graphics setting
& then i did the same for the "time" icon (i.e. for my recent documents) --> so this makes 1 new icon in this download
http://www.mediafire.com/?bfjxjmyzymq
after i go through with all the icons @ windows xp level, i'll add onto them again with 64 x 64 & higher resolutions for windows vista.
For windows vista resolutions (i.e. 64 x 64), i think i'm going to add a thick, black circular border with inside filled with transparency & then the icon touched up with some cubism

I was looking for an ico host to upload my example, and just thought I should zip it and up it to rapidshare. It didn't make sense to ust do that one, so I went and did a pack too.
http://rapidshare.com/files/126026740/R ... s.rar.html
I can't take all the credit. I was inspired by a pack someone posted here (or elsewhere?) that had a few ThinkPad PNG icons for Vista, including an actual picture of a multiburner. I just deceided to do a new one, and a few more. I'm kinda spoiled by my high resolution and Vista, so they're in 256/128/48 XP & Truecolor. (Might be odd, but was the default of the software I used, so hey.
)
If a lot of people really want other sizes, I might give it another crack, but these should be good for Vista. (I think)
Enjoy!

Hey, it's Thinkpad R who started this thread and gave us all the impetus.
Since I'm here....I was wondering if anyone had a picture of a IBM branded SD card? Supposedly there was one for a Workpad as a backup, but I can't find a picture.
In the meantime, I knocked this together, and did an icon too:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4696/sdtv4.png
Too bad it doesn't exist. The Vista native SD icon really clashes with my babies.

What sizes are the most commonly used in XP and Vista?
240, 380ED, 760C, 760CD, 760E, 760EL, 760LD, 760LD, 760XD, 760XD, A30, E520, G40, I1300, P53, R31, R40, R51, R52, R61, T20, T30, T40, T41, T42, T43, T43P, T60, T61, T400, T410, T420, T430, T460, X1C2, X30, X40, X220, X301 and on, and on, and on...
Default size for XP is 32x32 (can support 48x48 and 16x16), and for Vista default size is 48x48 (can supprot 256x256, 48x48 and 16x16)... More details and icons on this site, not thinkpad though, but I haven't searched whole site, maybe there is something usefull there...
Thanks. I think I'll add 32 to them. 16 seems a little backward these days. (Let me know if I'm wrong)

you don't have to program 16 x 16, but your icons may look rough if you don't.
for my icons, i programmed them at 48 x 48, 32 x 32, 24 x 24, & 16 x 16.
and for each of the 4 resolutions, i programmed them at WinXP, True Color, 256 Colors, & 16 Colors settings.
You can have just WinXP or whatnot but your icons may look really really rough after Windows does all the adjusting or if your color quality setting's at 16 bit or lower.
P.S.
I suggest Radioguy take charge of the Windows Vista area & I get done with Windows XP. How about that - reduces our workload by half.

Very nice.
That kind of reminds me of the icons I had used for my 760 a few years ago, but much cleaner looking. If you get the chance, try using the older greytone world maps. Those are of the same era as the icons and might perfect the retro experience.
As for my set, I think I'm gonna take your advice and just do more resolutions for those who do run at lower resolutions. Like I said, I've been spoiled lately, and I don't want to rub it in anyone's face.
Aside from more sizes, I'm going to add some new removable drive icons. (Ones that actually exist too)
EDIT: Here ya go:
http://rapidshare.com/files/126340752/R ... _.rar.html
These are the last I'll do for awhile. I think I covered most drive icons, and even a few retro ones for the ThinkPad fanboys out there. (Forgive one or two. I could only find so many hi-res images)
I hope you Vista users out there can make use of these.
