Could not find a thread that talked about this.
Since I started using a WD 250gb as my main hd i have gained an approx 1~2 hours life depending on wifi and other factors on my extended battery.
Cant say about regular battery as mine lasts only one hour and haven used it yet with the WD
Anyone else has noticed this?
Take a look at our

WD Scorpio harddrive = Better battery life
Interesting information, but I feel we miss a bit of information here: You compare the performance of your new Western Digital WD2500BEVE against your old drive - but you don't tell what the old drive specifically was? Also, did you change anything (anything?) except the drive? You didn't also swap the battery or alter some settings?
According to the WD2500BEVE datasheet its power consumption is:
Questions: Have you noticed any clicking sound (/"noise") from the WD HDD? Would you say is is "inaudible" or slightly noisy? Many users have reported it... but it might been cured by the newest drives?? Also, how hot do you feel the WD2500BEVE runs? Different from your old?

Sleep 60 mA
Power Dissipation

It was an unexpected benefit.
my thinkpad is a t40 with no internal wifi - i use a PC card
Upgraded to:
1.7 Dothan
2gb ram
old HD: 5400 rpm 80 gb Hitachi - (who has the power consumption data?)
Battery life - 5 - 5.5 hours on the still new extended battery.
New: 5400 rpm 250 gb WD
battery life - ~6.5 hours on the same battery.
No changes to settings.
My settings are always lcd brightness on ZERO.
low CPU profile.
I pull out the card to turn off wifi when not in use.
DVD rom - disabled from Device manager.
One PC card slot disabled
old style printer port disabled
Modem disabled
Ethernet Disabled
Laptop use:
OneNote 2007 with microphone recording. wifi off.
Web browsing periods. wifi on
also add ina few applications like Paint and Notepad
Openoffice 3: Draw and Formula
Questions: Have you noticed any clicking sound (/"noise") from the WD HDD?
No noice- only this woosh sound when reading- noticeable in empty room
Would you say is is "inaudible" or slightly noisy?

users have reported it... but it might been cured by the newest drives??

Also, how hot do you feel the WD2500BEVE runs? Different from your old?
Windows XP Sp3 is FAAST. Very satisfied.
Typing feels more real-time then ever. Nvr thought i would say that.
net- browsing is fast. Firefox 3 .. latest stable rel
in general windows all of them open real fast.
I defragged before the re-image from old drive and defragged after new HD was working.
Like i said very satisfied this smokes my HP dv6xxx laptop with an athlon x64 with vista in responsiveness.
Any other questions please ask.

Why is my P1 Gen 7 so much better on battery? Cool, quiet, fast — but not on AC.
