Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
My T41p was built in November 2004, and I presume it has the original LCD display. It is rather dim, even indoors. It's fine for visibility, but it is worse than my Dell 15" SXGA+ display (in Dell Inspiron 5150 that I purchased in July 2004).
What parts do I need to replace to make it brighter with higher contrast ratio?

Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
You need a new LCD or you have to replace the backlight. If you've never had a laptop apart before, forget about the backlight idea. If you provide your machine type/model from the sticker on the bottom of the Thinkpad we can recommend a replacement LCD.
Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
It is 2373-GGU.
Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
It has a 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD. The bare LCD panel is one of the following FRU#'s:
ID TECH 11P8346
Samsung 11P8348
I would recommend a complete assembly though - http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-T41p-LCD-Screen ... 0331003925

Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
I wouldn't hesitate to buy the one from eBay (great price), however, it concerns me that it's used, and I'm just not sure how much brighter (if at all) it is than my current unit.
I was thinking of buying a new one... DOn't know how much IBM/Lenovo sells them for.
Just curious, that part # you gave, it has the LCD screen AND the backlight?
Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
Backlight is an integral part of the LCD, so a working LCD contains a backlight.

Is there any difference between the ID TECH and SAMSUNG LCD panels? And does it matter which one I get for my laptop, or does it have to be exactly what's on my machine?
Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
You can use either, but I'd try to find an ID TECH one...

Re: Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?
Hey, wait, just a few suggestions before you rush off to get a "new" LCD: First, try see the thread IPS screen seems very dark... any thoughts or fixes? - reason for asking is that you might have set "brightness" to "normal" in the BIOS, and if only running off battery, the LCD will be a bit more dim compared to if the "brightness" is set to "High" in the BIOS. To learn where to alter this setting, see this post.muckz wrote:Is there any difference between the ID TECH and SAMSUNG LCD panels? About which manufacturers 14.1" T4xp SXGA+ LCD is "best", see the thread Upgrading a 14.1' T42 from 1024x768 to 1440x1050 resolution (more exactly this post and the links pointed to therein) and I want to change my T42 SXGA+(14inch) LCD screen.
Alternatively, you may have your backlight ("CCFL") replaced by forum-member jamiphar - see his advertisement here --> LCD CCFL Backlight Repair/GPU Rework - I'll fix it for you! Note James' outstandingly fine customer-feedback... most of which even comes from very picky forum-members!
