Which processor?
Which processor?
Hi i'm going to buy a w500 within the next few day but i'm sure which processor to choose. The choice is between 2.2 ghz p8400 and 2.53 ghz t9400. It's going to be used for when i'm going to study structural engineering. Hope you can help me
Re: Which processor?
That is a somewhat tough question. Processor alone will not necessarily help you. Assuming Windows Vista, get Business 64-bit and then get at least 4Gb of ram. Get a 7200-rpm hard drive (big impact). If you do all that, the faster processor will probably be worthwhile. My T61p is as described above and has a 2.4Ghz CPU and I am happy with the bundle. ... JDH
Re: Which processor?
If you can afford it, get the faster one. The difference will not be huge - but for structural engineering it may help.
As mentioned before, at least 4GB should be your first priority, then a fast HD, then the faster CPU.

Thanks for the help i'm going to choose the faster one
Re: Which processor?
RAM is dirt cheap. I only went with 1 DIMM of 2GB. HDD's are cheap, too, and both of which you can easily upgrade at any point in the future. You can the CPU as well, but it's far more cumbersome, so I'd say go with the fast CPU!
15-inch Core 2 Duo ThinkPad T60p | Ivy-Bridge (Late-2012) Mac mini w/ quad Core i7-3615QM 2.3GHz, 16GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM, 240GB+180GB Intel 520 Series SATA III SSD's, 5x3TB Drobo 5D
Re: Which processor?
And also expensive. Another 2GB DIMM is cheap and easy. A fast 320GB disk is $100 or so. A T9400 is over $300 compared to $120 as an upgrade.Crunch wrote:RAM is dirt cheap. Re: Which processor?
I don't think 2.2GHz and 2.53GHz will make much difference, but the T9400 got 6mb L2 cache while the P8400 got 3mb which is a good reason to choose the T9400 and most likely where there will be some noticeable performance difference.ebp wrote:Hi i'm going to buy a w500 within the next few day but i'm sure which processor to choose.
