unable to restore R50e to factory setup

#1 Post by yawnmoth » Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:23 am

I have an R50e that I'm planning on giving to a friend. Before I do that, however, I'd like to reformat it and restore it to it's factory condition. Only problem is, it doesn't seem that I'm able to do that. I click on "Restore factory contents" and after navigating through a few more popups, find myself presented with the following error:

IBM Product Recovery failed launching the convertion process.

Any ideas?

Hard to say what the issue is with your recovery partition. Try this, in Windows in Rescue & Recovery there is an icon to create recovery media. Do that and use the CD's to rebuild the recovery partition. Once that completes try a restore again.

I go to "Create Recovery Discs" and get the following error:
Create Recovery Disks wrote:An internal error has caused this to fail.
I go to "Create Rescue Media" and get the following error:
Create Rescue Media: Process failed. wrote:An internal error has caused this process to fail.
I guess maybe I should call IBM up and see if they can snail mail me a copy of the rescue disks? My computer is still under warranty...
