Yes, Lenovo will be releasing the X120e, a fixed x100e, essentially screwing x100e owners with a laptop that over heats and gobbles batteries. Will Lenovo make good on recent purchasers of X100e's, don't bet on it. However, I would certainly like to be proved wrong on this. So go ahead Lenovo do the right thing for your customer base and allow x100e owners to trade up to the x120e.

Lenovo has a program in place that does "allow" this. Just give your X100e to a friend and then add $400 or so for the X120e that you select! It's a great program!

My bet: The overheat and battery problem are not going to be solved. For a $400 machine trying to emulate a business class one, I believe they are pushing the limits too much. I learned it the hard way by buying a X100e that continuously overheats and has poor battery life. Then I remembered that I bought it for a very competitive price thinking that I was getting a x201.

Lenovo over promised and under delivered with the x100e. I don't see how is this is going to be different unless performance is seriously compromised. I won't set the expectations too high. Same initial "official" reviews were made with the X100e and then after rolling out, the overheat problem became a constant for double core users.

Well it is just my bet, probably words from being so frustrated with my Lenovo X100e.

So let's have a positive mind and try to see the glass half full.

by the way: it is just me or the design (the look) of the new X120e is now closer to standard notebook designs (that doesn't stand out from the crowd) and too close to the Edge series. I believe that the X series is loosing its unique and business class look .

the x120e looks exactly the same as x100e. you are looking at the wrong pic, which is a new edge series.

i hope the battery is the same, so if i ever get the new one, i can keep using my battery.

for a cheap computer, i don't mind upgrading more frequently

Maybe AMD will finally get their act together with the new mobile platform. This Bobcat platform is supposed to run less than 10W. A dual core 64-bit processor that competes with the Atom on power consumption would be a home run in mobile computing. Depending on how AMD delivers, I could see this as my next laptop, maybe this Christmas, to replace my T61.

Way to ruin a great product. I could never get used to having a minuscule backspace key. Did Lenovo really think that the already cramped keyboard needed a colossal enter key? Who in their right mind actually WANTS that?

I think that is only for the Japanese keyboard. If you look at the pictures of the English keyboard, it's the same as the X100e, ie. the enter and backspace keys are almost the same size, the enter being slightly larger.

That's a pretty big complaint for me -- I don't like using a trackpad -- I use the trackpad on my S10 because I think it's such a cute little machine -- but I really miss the trackpoint -- Of course there's no trackpoint on my iPad, but the touch screen is awesome and lots of fun to use -- if Lenovo gives us a tablet/touch screen and adds the case/keyboard, they're going to have to add the trackpoint for me to want the new toy

Back on topic, I'm eager to see if 1) the X120e has decent power consumption, 2) if it ships without a comically broken BIOS and 3) if its GPU has decent driver support. If they get all three of those right, I may reconsider getting a netbook.

from what i read it's the same case, the only diff are the new internal components and HDMI port.
so it's just smooth plastic like the x100e.

The X120e looks promising if it'll do what I need. My MacBook Pro was stolen last semester. I was planning on selling it to have the money to pick up an X201, but now I'm kinda screwed in that department. The price of the X120e is pretty much my budget, so I'm really hoping this turns out to be a good machine.

I actually love my X100e, it's really a great travel companion. The case is tough plastic, but it doesn't have the high end feel of the T or X-series plastic. It's seems to be better and nicer plastic than on the Edge series machines.

The X100e is not as bad as you would think reading some posts. It is not slow ( provided you get a dual core, more than 2 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM disk ). It tend to get hot when the air cannot go in the machine through the bottom vents ( under the machine ) when its standing on a soft surface ( like a sofa ). The price is very low for something better than a netbook.

In my opinion the x100e is the successor of the x61s / x301: Slow but ultra portable machines for managers. More so than the x201 that is a T410 with a smaller screen.

I’m looking forward to the x120e. I’ll buy one for sure this year.
