Where to get: T42 display hinge
Where to get: T42 display hinge
Hi,
I have a 14.1 inch T42, and the left display-hinge just broke.
I already figuered that I likely need FRU# 91P8388
Has anyone an idea where to get it, and whats the price? (europe /switzerland).
Or am I cheaper of to buy a broken T4x and keep it for parts.
Thanks!
ralf

- they are easily found on eBay in the USA (and fairly cheap, too); see e.g. this listing or this listing. Alternatively, get it directly from IBM as an original sparepart - see IBM Maintenance parts site - cost around $17 there. Thrid suggestion: Put up a "WTB (Want To Buy) advertisement in the Marketplace on this forum.

Thanks a lot for the reply,
I followed the link and changed location to switzerland....
17.15 CGF ( ~ 17 $), free shiping, payable with bill ( no advance payment)
This is service and definetively better than ebay.
cheers

update/advice
Just an update:
the hinges arived yesterday ( 4th working day since order), additional to the hinges the package contained all needed stickers ( for the bluetooth antenna and to cover the screws...).
The bill did not show up yet.
Small advice:
The LCD is sticking to the front pannel with some double-sided adhesisves... this is not mentioned in the HMM... just took some extra minutes to lcheck that i did not forgot any screws.
cheers

Re: update/advice
This "minor point" applies to nearly all the Thinkpad displays, is never mentioned in the HMM and often enough leads to breakage of the LCD bezel. Whether the omission in the HMM is just an oversight, or is designed to generate orders for spare parts, is a mystery to me. I consider the omission a major (and unnecessary) problem.schmaud wrote:Small advice:

Re: Where to get: T42 display hinge
Hello,
I was just handed to me by a friend a T41 with the same hinges as this discussion.
When I started to take out the broken left hinge, first I stripped the coax off of the LCD Graphics signal wires.
the internal coax wire seems to be ok. I plan to tape that up and not worry about the coax.
2nd, there is this tiny, tiny little hex nut on the shaft of the hinge's assembly. Nowhere is there any mention of the size of this allan wrench and what is the size. I am guessing that its 0.8mm. I would appreciate
any feedback because before I buy an new hinge, I want to take the old one off.
I might "jury rig" an external hinge but I def need to remove this one.
Hex nut size would be apprec and where to buy this tool..
Regards and Thanks, Paul
