ThinkPad SL410 Seems Slow
I just recently purchased an SL410. I just reformatted it last night. It is running Win 7 Pro, x64, a Core 2 Duo, and 6 Gigs of Ram (I added 4 Gigs). It seems to be running slow. What can I turn off under msconfig? It seems that a lot is starting up, and I'm not sure if everything needs to. I am running Avast Pro Antivirus, SuperAntiSpyware and Diskeeper (probably Windows Defender is running also). What do you suggest? How much built-in Lenovo stuff could be slowing it down? If so, how can I stop it from doing so? Should I turn some Services off? BTW, the HDD only has 60 Gigs left. Thanks.

welcome to the forum.
generally, i shut off indexing and remove the rescue & restore program. i also remove access connections, but you may have need for it
regarding services, check this out:

actually, the entire website has a wealth of information. the guy has been at this for many years.
towards the middle of the page i linked, there's a grid that walks through just about every native windows 7 service, showing default startup settings and recommended/safe changes.
hth.

Question.....Actually 2 questions. Will removing the Rescue and Restore program prevent you from using F11 to do a re-format if you need to? Also, does turning off Indexing, I think, stop search choices from coming up when you click on the "Start" button? I will post back what I do. I have to read over the site you posted.

Here is what I did to get my ThinkPad to run faster:sarbin wrote:welcome to the forum.

1. The most helpful thing was to update Power Management using the ThinkPad update software already installed.
2. I uninstalled the Rescue and Recovery Software
3. I disabled Access Connections from starting up in msconfig
4. I disabled Windows Defender (I did this for I already have SAS running)
My computer is faster now, and I'm happy with it's performance....Oh, the other thing that I did first was I contacted Lenovo, and they told me where to find the correct drive update for my Wireless Card, for the one that came with the system was from 2009, and was not working well. I read Black Viper's website, but decided not to change anything based upon that.
