Maybe creating a bootable usb linux stick?

It's some kind of ACPI issue, so maybe there is a way to patch the DSDT or something like that...

Yes, I tried that, booted from cd ubuntu, bluetooth was activated, then booted Lion and bluetooth was there, but screen was flickering, some problems with video, after shutdown, I disabled bluetooth, booted up ok, and then switched the bluetooth back... Bluetooth is ok now. Very strange....

What program you use to see the temp of the CPU? I use iSTAT 2, and get just hdd temp. No cpu info.

Hi everyone,

This has been an invaluable thread and discussion. I have an interesting scenario that I am trying to troubleshoot and am hoping someone can provide some insight.

My system:
X61t (Tablet)
7763-CU8, with an L7500 processor, X3100 graphics, and 4MB of RAM.
Airport Extreme 0x168C, 0x58A (Atheros 5212 a/b/g card)

I've had Snow Leopard on this machine all the way through 10.6.8

Recently installed Lion 10.7.2 using Anastasius instructions and files at the beginning of this thread.

Everything works really well on startup. Machine is really fast. Using Anastasius' files, and iStat v2, I can monitor CPU Heatsink, Mem controller, and Northbridge temperatures, plus the fan speed. CPU Heatsink temp runs between 60 and 75 degrees, depending on what I am doing (video, etc).

The

Code: Select all

ioreg -lw0 | grep CSTInfo
command returns a value: 19136773 so I assume my CStates are enabled and working.

My SMBIOS.plist and DSDT.aml are the same as Anastasius' - SMBios using the MacBookPro 2,3 profile. I am booting with Chimera 1.6.

Issues outstanding:
** I used to be able to monitor CPU0 and CPU1 independent temperatures using a different FakeSMC.kext which included ACPIMonitor and IntelCPUMonitor. I can swap my older FakeSMC to get these back, but I am wondering what others are getting for temp monitoring with Anastasius files.

** When I put the machine to sleep and resume it, I have an issue with video slowness in the browser. I can reproduce this every time - start up clean, go to Youtube, play a particular video in 720p - works fine. Sleep / Resume, it is choppy every time.

** I am also seeing an odd kernel log message: "failure to load kext.com.apple.driver.AppleIntelGMAX3100" - Couldn't alloc class "Intel965" - which seems odd since I have a different GPU....

** Bluetooth worked when I built the machine, however it seemed to try to enumerate "all" bluetooth addresses starting with 00:00:00:01 and scanned everything in the universe. The bluetooth process was thrashing as a result, so I disabled it.

This machine is superb as a little Mac - especially with the Tablet features, etc. I am just hoping to iron out these last wrinkles. Any thoughts on these issues would be hugely appreciated - especially the sleep / resume choppiness.

I got strange messages in my machine when using Chimera, using always the latest Chameleon from their buildbot works perfectly for me (getting it with champlist too).

By the way, I've been for some days without crashes now, i'm using the macbook3,1 profile, and all of anastasious' files.

There is a project called iwidarwin with intel wireless drivers for mac osx, but I don't think the intel 3945ABG is supported under lion (it seems that they dropped development since 10.5), i had to replace my intel 4695AGN with a cheap Atheros from ebay (Apple Airport Extreme (0x168C, 0x87 - Atheros 5416 4.0)).

Thanks victor.vhd! The latest chameleon definitely made a difference.

After reinstalling chameleon I also methodically re-installed every kext from the first posting, and my sleep / freeze issues appear to be gone. I am still working with the MacBookPro2,3 profile as it seems to be working.

Looking through my kernel logs, I am also seeing 3 audio assertions. Audio is working, but I haven't tried anything fancy like plugging in a line input or headphones out.

Code: Select all

Sound assertion "0 == fMikeyDriver" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 1063 goto handler

Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAPath.cpp" at line 1175 goto Exit

Sound assertion "0 != pathSet->getWidgetAmplifierGainRange ( &zeroValue, &minValue, &maxValue, &minDB, &maxDB, kPATH_CONTROL_SPATIAL_CHANNELID_Master )" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAEngine.cpp" at line 266 goto handler

I found different atheros cards, but not the one you wrote about. Do you have a link where you got it?

The AR9280 is cheap and great. Works out of the box, runs under Win/Linux and of course OSX. This one only needs 2 antennas and has very efficient powermanagement. No hot palmrest :)

Hi all,

thanks for that Wifi card tip. I just ordered one. Airdrop seems to be also working with that card, which is great. Ill test and share experiances.

I also have a question: I own a x61 Tablet now. I added ssd, a sierra 8775 and ram. I really have no problems at all, everything works well. Only one thing bothers me. My model has a multitouch screen. TabletMagic only enables pen input. I tried the touch base driver (theres a driver for IBM FlipTouch, I guess it should be my screen) but without any luck. If I install both of these i don't have any tablet input at all. Tabletmagic and touch base don't seem to like each other a lot. Does any one has any idea? Would be great! Thank you!

Geraldo, I had to enable airdrop on all interfaces to get it to work, running the following command:

Code: Select all

defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowseAllInterfaces 1

Found at http://www.digitalmarketingtalk.com/apple/how-to-enable-airdrop-on-your-hackintosh-over-ethernet-or-wi-fi/

Did you have any crashes with the MacBookPro2,3 profile? I understand things might go a bit faster than when using the MacBook3,1 profile.

Good Morning,

I recently purchased a totally rad X61 for a triple-boot project.

Question: Will OSX recognize and utilize the full 8gb of ram possible with 64-bit Windows 7?

I will be using OSX partition primarily, and would like to know if it's worth the extra paper for 8gb over 4gb.

@victor: Thanks for the hint.

About the ram question,

I don't think ram is the bottleneck on these older machines. Its more the cpu which is quite slow compared to the new intel i3/i5/i7 generation. I would suggest to rather invest in a ssd or a hybrid drive (seagate moments xt).

I installed lion on a x61. I faced some sleep problems in the beginning. just go trough this thread, its all in here.

Have fun.

There's a driver for finger touch. It costs about $200 so I don't remember its name :) The price is too high for me for a thing that I use very rare. But please write here if you find any other solution!

So far no crashes - seems really stable at this point. Am looking now for a wifi card that can support 802.11n - since it seems like there still is no solution for the Intel 4965agn that I had to swap out of it....

Anastasius - thanks so much for all of the time you have put into this and the 10.6.x efforts. These machines are so great and OSX breathes a lot of new life into them.

Just had a quick question about the CPU temp monitoring:
Pirmas wrote:What program you use to see the temp of the CPU? I use iSTAT 2, and get just hdd temp. No cpu info.
Anastasius wrote: iStat menus 2. You'll need my DSDT and FakeSMC with plugins installed for monitoring. All of these are included in my package from the first post.
In an earlier thread, it was noted that we need to install SMCITEController.kext to FakeSMC's Plugins folder:
jzhang18 wrote: I know for sure, iStat Menu needs SMCITEController.kext. so I cannot simply remove it.
Any fix for it? really appreciated!
Anastasius wrote: You need to put to PlugIns folder of FakeSMC.
I just tried moving SMCITEController.kext into FakeSMC (plugins) using the files from your package - I am getting the Heatsink temp, but not the individual CPU's.

My FakeSMC plugins now contain
ACPIMonitor.kext
SMCITEController.kext

No joy. When I had it working with a different FakeSMC, it had an additional plugin - IntelCPUMonitor.kext - it seemed like that was the difference for 10.6.x....

I'mmmmm baccckkkkkk :D

Previously I had been following this thread because of my R61e, but I have just purchased a x61 tablet for a good price :D

Any of you guys have the tablet working with the stylus? Did you have to do anything after installing TabletMagic?

When I was taking apart my x61t before, I noticed that there is an extra, empty MiniPCIE slot. Have any of you looked into using the Broadcom BCM970015 ? Its what the xbmc people are installing in their 1st gen AppleTV's to get 1080p working. http://www.logicsupply.com/products/bcm970015

Hey bense,

welcome back!

Just use tablet enabler and Tablet magic. For me it worked just fine.

its true. Theres an open slot. I placed a sierra mc8775 3G modem in there. To be able to use non Lenovo hardware you need to whitelist the bios. Google for the middleton bios hack for x61t. It will also enable Sata II.

Also theres no good way to get bluetooth running in the sense that you can disable it software wise in mac os. It will turn off though when using the hardware switch. What i did is to tape a pin of the mini pci-e wlan card. That way it won't shut down when using the switch, but bluetooth will. You can still disable wlan in mac os though. You will also have to do that with your broadcom card, otherwise it will power of with bluetooth when you use the switch.

I wonder if I can jank out the modem mini pci-e half size card to place the broadcom decoder there. What do you guys think? Good idea?

Very cool!

I will try to post driver update as soon as possible. I'm too busy these days. The problem is VoodooPS2Controller doesn't work in my current configuration - but I know how to fix it, just need some free time.

|2) Install Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r1496 (you need exactly this version or Chimera - read below) to that Flash (it can be installed from .pkg)
3) Copy /Extra folder from installed 10.6.7 (included below in this post) to Flash|

Model X61: 7673

When I copy the /Extra folder Anastasius attached to the first post, I find that Chameleon has already installed an Extra Folder. Should I merge or overwrite this?

I am taking care to follow the steps. Lucky me to be stuck at step 4

Good idea?

I now have TabletEnabler and TabletMagic both. Previously I had forgotten to add TabletEnabler. I added WACF008 to both
LegacyX60T.kext/Contents/Info.plist
and
/System/Library/Extensions/Apple16X50Serial.kext/Contents/PlugIns/Apple16X50ACPI.kext/Contents/Info.plist

So now TabletMagic sees 'serial0' for port. (Previously WACF004 did not get serial0 to show up)

I am using TabletMagic 2.0b18 and have tried tinkering with just about every single option yet I cannot get the stylus to control the mouse :(

I am on 10.7.1
x61t - 7762
Also using the middleton BIOS like you mentioned :D (Had to install winxp on a spare drive because the CDROM that I burned would not accept the USB CDROM Drive :( )

More information about my tablet setup can be seen in post 7 of this thread:
http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=3000241

As you can see, I have removed the internal wifi module so that I don't get distracted with the internet/computers when I'm trying to do my homework. I also purchased a modular Rosewill MiniN1 usb wireless card, for the occasions that I do want wifi capabilities with this x61

Using the VoodooSDHC.kext (the one from the MAC PNT 02 15 2011 package) and placing it in /Extra/Extensions, then running a kext utility has allowed me to get the SD slot working. I have tested it with both SD and SDHC cards.

The eaby item says "This card compatibles with most of the notebooks with mini pci-e interface except IBM, HP machines. " is it true? Do you have exactly this model in your x61t?
