Laptop too hot on your lap
Laptop too hot on your lap
I have been finding my T40p uncomfortably warm on my lap, especially wearing shorts.
So I looked around the house to see what I can use on my lap, but I eventually got a Targus podium coolpad (still feel a bit silly for paying $20 for it)
Anyone has a better idea?

Yeah, unplug it? The only time my 1.5GHz T40 is even warm, let alone uncomfortable, is when I have it plugged in and actively charging the battery, or when I'm doing something that is taxing the processor fully.yukit wrote:I have been finding my T40p uncomfortably warm on my lap, especially wearing shorts.

What are you normally doing with your machine when it gets so warm?
Regards,
James
Besides casual email & web browsing, lot of coding, compiling & runningWhat are you normally doing with your machine when it gets so warm?
VMware products.
You are also correct that the heat is worst when I have the AC adapter plugged in to charge the battery while I am using the system.
Would it be better to just remove the battery & run directly off the AC adapter? I guess I can try that in the future.
Thanks,
yuki

Seems like you got a real red hot deal on that ThinkPad
At least you can be thankful it's not a Dell

The fan is a big part of the cooling process, but also keep in mind that there needs to be space between the underside of the computer and whatever it's sitting on so the botton can cool. Note that only the rubber feet on the bottom of the ThinkPad touch the surface.
