Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
but, i can't seem to get it working like i would have imagined it would.
i have a sb6121 docsis 3.0 modem, netgear wndr3400 wireless n router, and just got in a tp-link wn861n card for my t42.
installation went smooth (although i wasn't too sure about the black and white antennas and where they should go) with the tp drivers and wireless utility.
but when i opened the installed tp utility, i can't figure out how to connect to my network. it sees it in the utility but i don't see a "connect button"? also it seems to disable the windows wireless because i can't even find my network that way.
so i uninstalled just the utility and kept the driver. windows then picks up the network like normal and connects, but only at 54mbps.
what am i missing? why is the windows wireless showing 54mbps and why can't i connect using the tp utility?

Check the settings in your router, using an ethernet cable to get in.
Windows should find 2 networks if you set it up correctly.

2 networks? you mean the 2.4ghz b/g/n and 5ghz a/n?RealBlackStuff wrote:Check the settings in your router, using an ethernet cable to get in.

and just for fun i tested it on my older netgear wgt624 108mbps router and changed the wireless settings to "g only", and "auto 108mbps" and it still showed 54mbps.

Did you get this sorted, mate? I've been thinking of getting of of these for my T4X Frankenpad.
Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
FWIW, W7 native Atheros driver works at N speeds...haven't tested the TP link one in XP...

Wel that kinda sucks. I was hoping to go back to XP. Managed to obtain a set of t42 recovery discs... But i suppose windows 7 ultimate isnt horribly slow either.
Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
It will actually run pretty well on that Frankie of yours, presuming 2GB RAM and a reasonably fast HDD. Some tweaking might be called for, but all-in-all it should be fine.DaKKS wrote:But i suppose windows 7 ultimate isnt horribly slow either.

It chokes on Aero but with a Classic theme (or Basic), it works fine. Been thinking of going over to Server 2008 R2 since it sometimes doubles as an web/FTP server, but I'm holding off until I can install an SSD. Unfortunately I get an interface error on the current WDC drive...ajkula66 wrote: It will actually run pretty well on that Frankie of yours, presuming 2GB RAM and a reasonably fast HDD. Pro ran like a dream but Microshit banned my key because of some MSDN rubbish.

If you are talking about TL-WN861N, this card works perfectly with Windows XP SP3.

After some modifications, both activity LED and Fn+F5 work well. And it connects to my Netgear WNR3500 at 300Mb and it is very stable.
(I don't use Access Connections.)
I installed this card in my T43p's and T42p's.
T42p, T43p, X60, T60p, X201
Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
Oh, goody. I'm running a T42p motherboard so it should be fine then. How did you fix the led? Havent managed to get it to work on mine with after market broadcom wifi, but i admit i haven't exactly put a lot of effort into it...3to4 wrote: Hello,

Hi, as you will see in the thread I quoted (Post of 10/01/13). For the LED,DaKKS wrote: Oh, goody. I'm running a T42p motherboard so it should be fine then. How did you fix the led? 1) I had to cover pin13 of the card with a piece of special thin tape, and connect the pin13 of the slot to the ground with a thin wire.
2) I had to create two registry entries (ActivityLEDFunc and LinkLEDFunc).
I don't know if these will work with Broadcom card, but this is what I did for my TL-TW861N.

Thanks, mate. I'm gonna swap out the broadcom card for one of those tp-link 300mbit cards anyway.3to4 wrote: Hi, as you will see in the thread I quoted (Post of 10/01/13). For the LED,

Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
nope. haven't gotten it figured out yet. still showing 54mbps.
i did however have to use the atheros driver to avoid it from not waking up from sleep mode.
i was also told that if its wep protected that it won't read anything higher. so i changed it to wpa2 but it didn't help.

Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
I just tested it on my T43pFL in XP, using TP link driver and configuring it via Windows, getting full speed...

130...but I'm currently on an old "Draft-N" router so that's as good as it's going to get.

The driver is one from the TP link site. Using Windows configuration. TP utility was a worthless PITA that I couldn't get to work whatsoever.

did you not have a problem of it being stuck in sleep mode?ajkula66 wrote: I couldn't tell you.

Re: Joined the wireless n party on my t42......
The only reason I've gone this route was to test the driver and give you a heads up. This machine normally runs W7 and not XP.blackbeasst wrote:did you not have a problem of it being stuck in sleep mode?
Sleep and hibernation are disabled on *all* of my ThinkPads with discrete graphics.

When running the 1802 fix, was there a confirmation after typing "no-1802"?
I booted from an iso cd image, it ran. Then I typed the request, pressed enter and no response.
When i tried the new card - I got the 1802 error.
