Did all X300/x301 come w/alps touchpad?

#1 Post by piledriver » Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:08 pm

I'm trying to track down a Synaptics touchpad for multitouch etc features.

Did any X300 or X301s come with Synaptics or were they all ALPS?
X300---My first Thinkpad and still my favorite. various Linux and Win11 (seriously)
X200-201--"Krunchy" Tablet/Ultrabase, Win10 Pro + Linux+Android-x86
X260, 32GB ram and 2TB p41 NVME SSD. runs Win11 in hardware or Virtualbox just fine.
My Year of Linux on the Desktop was 1993.

The x301 had two palm rests available - difference being the touchpad.
The x300 only lists one, probably Alps, but just a guess.

The more common is the Alps; the second is a Synaptics with Multitouch capabilities.
The Synaptics is FRU 45N5570. the Alps is FRU 44C4872.
I've had both & much prefer the Synaptics but out of six x30 machines I've had only one came with the Synaptic.

There is a long thread at the NBR Lenovo forum about them: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo- ... touch.html
X301 -- X201s -- X2faux1s -- X201 -- x230 -- T61 -- T60p -- T42p

Thank you!
The palmrests are interchangeable x300<>x301, correct?

The multitouch may prove handy with win8 and Android-x86.

Multi touch only works with the x301.
I tried to swap it on a x300 but could not get it working.
