X31 ssd help.
X31 ssd help.
Hello. First post here, although I have browsed here very often as a guest.
My issue is with a Kingspec 16gb ssd and my x31.
I installed ubuntu 11.10 onto the ssd, with the installation seeming to take longer than it did on conventional laptop hard drives. Anyway... the installer found the ssd and wrote to it.
Now I know it has been written to, I used the live CD to check. But when I attempt to boot the x31 will just hang on the IBM splash screen for longer than usual and eventually tell me that no operating system has been installed, which is incorrect.
Is this issue down to BIOS settings or version? Or could it be a issue with the ssd? Please bare in mind I have double checked with a live CD version of ubuntu, which picks up the ssd and shows the files on it.
I cannot see any glaring issues in the BIOS and have looked for other threads with this problem but have found none so any information that you maybe able to provide me will be appreciated.

Re: X31 ssd help.
Hello and welcome to the forum. Quick question (from my experience with a similar PATA SSD):
Does your drive come with a jumper and if so, did you try alternating between master and slave?

Re: X31 ssd help.
Yes it came with a jumper but I just removed it. As the IBM hard drive had no jumper at all on it.
I''ll put it back on and see what happens.

Re: X31 ssd help.
Replaced the jumper to its original position and now all works fine
I guess this is what we get living in the SATA age, forgetting the importance of jumpers.
Well it works now, thanks for the help.
My trusty little x31 lives another day.
