I found a really cool thing the other day that I think you guys will be intrested in. On another computer-related forum, a few hackers are gathering intrest for a 2560x1700 IPS, 13 inch display, and I was really suprised by how much of a difference the screen resolution made (see video at end of post).
This reminded me of the 2048x1536 mods that people do here, which at one point almost lured me into buying a T6x just to perform the mod... untill I realised out how difficult it is to get ahold of these panels. As a computer user who spends much of my time reading on a screen, I think it's important to have your display be just as good as your eyes are. It's frustrating how they can cram a 1920x1080 into a 5 inch Nexus phone, while we are still suffering with the cheap and cramped resolution of laptops with a far larger screen.
This display is going to be sold with an enclosure for somewhere south of $400, which includes the PCB (integrated into the display) that interfaces to your computer through DisplayPort. Using this display as a standalone monitor would be great for when you're not on the move, and also, as it is a small 13 inch display, it could also serve as a highly portable secondary display for your laptop.
I was thinking, and I thought that it might be possible to hack this display into a x301. The Minimax display is 12.9 inches with a 1.5:1 (3:2) screen ratio, while the x301 has a 1.6:1 (16:10) ratio. It might require a bit of hacking at the frame, however looking at the numbers I'm almost certain it can be done, especially since the x301 has a built-in DisplayPort that can be used internally, routed through the laptop. When I asked, I was told that a sole panel and controller, without the enclosure, can be provided for a discount if there's demand. Here is the original intrest check by the user developing the display, for these who would like more details.
Here's a video of a functioning prototype:

So, is there intrest here for a partial kit, or full?
Any thoughts on the proposed mod?

Always kudo's for a screen with more vertical real estate. But in a X301? Not for me.
