Just bought a X201 tablet with the i7 L620 2GHz CPU...
Comparing this computer with my normal X201 I can see and feel the CPU temperatures are different.
While doing light surfing on the internet the X201 CPU temp hangs around 43/45° while the Tablet with its i7 CPU is 10° warmer.
Because I am now considering looking for a tablet with the outdoor view display I have the choice between a tablet with the i7CPU and a tablet with the i5CPU.
I am not using the computer for gaming nor for heavy computing, while as always I will install a SSD so my question, would the i5 reach the same temeratures like my normal X201? I would assume so no? How much "slower" would the i5 with 1.07GHz be compared to the i7 with say 2.0/2.4 GHz? Or would I not feel the difference with the usage I normale have with the computer?
Thanks,
Yves

Well, I bought another X201 tablet with the i5 CPU and a multitouch display. Will compare both tablets and post you my experience on the actual temperatures and battery life between the i7 and the i5 CPU's.

Re: X201 Tablet with i7CPU versus X201 Tablet with thye i5 C
Received the "new" tablet last week, as promised some feedback...
The i5 CPU runs about 5°C colder than the i7 CPU, with less fan noise. Although while swapping the keyboard I did notice that the fan on the i5 tablet smaller is than the fan used in the i7 tablet. The i5 tablet does not feel that hot on your lap.
Battery life; then "new" tablet came with a used 8 cell battery built in Dec 2010 and first used in Feb 2011, has 50 cycles with a design capacity of 66.24Wh, its actual capacity is 66.68Wh. The other battery I bought new OEM, built in Oct 2010 and first used in Sep 2014, design capacity is 66.24Wh, actual capacity is 72.08Wh and has 5 cycles on it.
I have the feeling I can get more battery life out of the i5 tablet but have no proof in the form of numbers.
I cannot get the actual current on the i5 tablet as low as on the i7 tablet with the same power settings in the power manager. This could be because the i7 tablet has been factory restored with only the minimum of programs installed on it, ready to be sold.
Speed wise, the i5 CPU has a clock speed of 1.07Ghz but feels as "fast" as the I7 CPU. I am sure that the i7 CPU is a lot faster but I do not notice this in my daily use. Upgrading both with a SSD has given both tablet steroids!
So, the i7 tablet is for sale simply because the other came with the multitouch display, has the fingerprint reader and webcam. The only thing it did not had was the WWAN card but this has been ordered.

Re: X201 Tablet with i7CPU versus X201 Tablet with thye i5 C
The only assumption I'd be wary of making is this one. Connector and pinout often vary from model to model, and while your assumption regarding one screen being a variant of the other seems like a reasonable guess to me, assuming that they will be electrically-compatible does not.
