T42 w/64 Radeon 9600 + Dell 2005FPW = work?
T42 w/64 Radeon 9600 + Dell 2005FPW = work?
I'm just wondering how well the Thinkpad would swing a monitor at a resolution that high? Anyone have one (or a 2001FP?) I think it runs at 1680 x 1050. It will be via DVI through a Port Replicator.
Thanks.
Thanks.
You can get the Dell 2500FPW for $594:

Yeah I've got one of the 25% off Dellf coupons making it $599 waiting to be used. Just have to wait for Xmas to get over with.
As long as it will support the resolution, then I'm not worried that much. I dont really play games, so as long as it looks good when it plays a DVD or when I plug my Tivo into it, I'm happy.
thanks for the help.

i also have the same problem as sswany does.
does anyone know a fix for it?
I found that once the monitor was connected through DVI and I had fixed the driver and booted with it, I could change the Windows resolution to 1680 x 1050. Once Windows was in the resolution, I could create a new Presentation Director profile with 1680 x 1050 (it was available once Windows was already at that resolution).

Odd... Earlier last week, I was told by a representative that to get DVI output, I would need at least a mini-dock. Looking through the site now, it says that the port replicator (74P6733) does indeed have a DVI port. I wonder what he meant now...sswany wrote:It will be via DVI through a Port Replicator.

To sswany
I am able to set secondary monitor res (Dell 2005FPW 20" wideaspect lcd) to 1680 x 1050 without using IBM's Presentation Director using RGB cable. I guess I should bring from home my docking station and try the fix.
I'm planning on getting this monitor and running this off the Analog output on my Thinkpad (T42) which has a Radeon 9600.
I've looked through all the possible resolutions but don't see the native for the dell 2005fpw (1680 x 1050). ideally I'd like to be running both screens, increasing my desktop space but I don't actually own a dock.
does anyone know if what I want to achieve can be done? will display properties show more appropriate resolutions based on the connected monitor? or do I need a driver update?
any help would be much appreciated,
K
