Is there a 1.8" IDE-mSATA adapter that supports TRIM?
I've read quite a few threads that say it's necessary to DISABLE trim on the typical eBay Asian 1.8" ide to msata adapters that fit the x40. I've done quite a bit of searching but I haven't found anyone that says they have trim enabled and functional with msata on an X40.
I'm using a kingspec ssd right now but I'm sending that machine to my cousin and I'd like another ssd solution for my other x40.
Thanks! I'm sorry if this has been answered- google couldn't seem to find it.

Better question: can you find anything with a datasheet?
Sunplus SATALink SPIF223A does not handle Data Set Management command (or "trim").
JMicron JM20330, JMicron JMH330, Marvell 88SA8040, Marvell 88SA8052, Silicon Image SiI3811 do pass the command.
JM20330 is problematic with some devices/drives/AT Attachments: I assume successor JMD330 and JMH330 are improved over JM20330. Between SiI3811 and 88SA8040, I have impression based on single specimen unscientific testing, SiI3811 is the faster translator/transliterator, it add less delay+latency than 88SA8040, and is also more "impatient", leading to rejected bus configuration.
I fell, and continue to fall, for a lot of consumer industry hoopla and lies. My opinion of "trim" is final and hardened: "trim" is worthless, I could not care less about "trim".
edit add shameless self promotion: I wrote an article (my first) on our FAQ forum. I recommend read it, to anybody considering SATA flashdisc.

Re: Is there a a 1.8" ide-msata adapter that supports trim?
Thanks for the info, very concise post. I ordered a Chinese 1.8" ide-msata adapter to try with an msata drive that I already own. I'm pretty sure it's a JM20330. I used the Aleratec adapter in my wife's x301 with excellent results- it's very fast.
It's nice the these adapters are relatively inexpensive. I can afford to buy a few different ones to experiment if needed. I'm still looking for a solution for my T42.

I bought a jm20330 adapter to try in my other x40 and a jmh330 adapter for my t42. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure how active this thread (currently!) is, but anyway: There's a great deal of information available about mSATA to IDE/PATA adapters in the T4x-forum; see e.g. the thread New SSD opt. for T4x : mSATA-to-IDE adapter ST663FD9 *PICS* and GUIDE: Make your T4x *FAST* by replacing the HDD with a SSD!imaradiostar wrote:I bought a jm20330 adapter to try in my other x40 and a jmh330 adapter for my t42. I'm not certain about whether all of these adapters (most of which are aimed laptops intended for 2.5" HDD's), but in the above-mentioned threads (and other treads linked to therein) there's also a good bit about information about mSATA-to-1.8" adapters, and how to successfully use these in a "TRIM-environment".
Also, see this post where it is discussed how to (potentially!) use one of the newer NGFF/M.2 SSD's in a IDE/PATA-based laptop. Maybe there's a Marvell-based adapter coming up for use with these new NGFF/M.2 SSD's which is also usable with TRIM in a 1.8" ThinkPad of the X3/4x-generation?
Kindly share all (relevant!) information with us folks who are mainly reading the T4x-forum news. Thanks in advance!
Johan
