a21p screen on t43
a21p screen on t43
My very first thinkpad was an A21p which sported a fantastic 1600x1200 screen that I still regret.
I was just wondering if I can install it on a 15" T43 (currently with a 1400x1050 panel).
Has anyone ever experienced such a mod ? And what about critical points (connectors, cables, video ram etc.).
Thanks
Ggiglio

If you still have the A21p, get the model # of the screen from the label at the back of the panel, then search for its datasheet.

As long as the T43/T43p has an ATI-GPU, the 15" UXGA will work, if you also find the UXGA LCD-cable 91P6858.
SXGA+ and UXGA inverters are the same.
You can also put in a Sharp UXGA, see here: viewtopic.php?p=779362#p779362

Isn't the IDTech IAUX14S the better option here, if you can get such a panel in nice working condition that is. I got one with red backlight for $50 and stick a new backlight in, and it works well aside from some pressure marks from my questionable assembling skills.
Though in a T4x you need some cable folding to make it connect properly.

Isnt the A21p only TFT not FlexView?

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

It is.
That being said, it's a very nice panel for a TN. The very LCD that got me into higher resolutions some 15-16 years ago.
Now, I wouldn't swap a good IPS SXGA+ for a TN UXGA, but that's me.

Re: a21p screen on t43
I'm not sure how it compares to the W700s 400nit TN display. If it is atleast half as good, thats a darn good display right there. Probably similar to my X220's or T500's TN display, also a very nice TN display.
You being the FlexView farmer, I'd be worried if you didnt pick the IPS display over the UXGA first
