Thinkpad x201 display mod (1900*1200 panel)

#1 Post by ijunsung » Thu Jun 14, 2018 7:21 pm

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a2 ... =19#detail

I found a interesting link where it sells a panel for X210. Does it fit into X201 with alternation? I mean x210 is almost new model using only thinkpad x201 chassis. it replaces motherboard with cpu as well so I have to buy all of them separately. that is too expensive.

699 Chinese yuan is around $120. this is not bad deal, in my opinion.

I would like to know whether I can install this panel into x201 model.

I appreciate your opinion in advance.

Not without extensive mods.

IIRC that screen has an eDP (embedded DisplayPort) link, whereas the X201's LCD has an LVDS link.

You'd need to make an adapter board similar to nitrocaster's X220/X230 Full HD kit, which uses the Displayport signals from the docking connector.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

I feel you man, I like the display mods too.

If it didn't require a stupidly high level of ECE knowledge and fab building to do, I'd take an approximately sized screen and put it into my PC110.

For now, my best X200 machine has an X201 i5 mobo and an X200 AFFS LED screen.

Would it be possible to use nitrocasters board (yes i know it does not fit directly on top of motherboard), if you find the correct pins for displayport on X201 motherboard and solder wires from motherboard to nitrocaster board and connect a eDP lcd?

Sounds doable if you can find long enough LCD-cables.
Get the X201 and X220 or X230 schematics.
Better even if you can also find a boardview for them.
You need to compare the 'docking connector' on X220/X230 with the 'slice connector' on X201.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!
