Putting together an ultimite Thinkpad for a friend

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Thu Nov 08, 2018 12:48 am

My friend Morten from My Playhouse on YouTube is a big Lenovo/IBM fan as like me but I've been thinking since it's too much to ship a server to Europe I'd put together a perfect Lenovo Thinkpad and send it his way but don't know what to put together... I'm thinking of maybe T430 or T440 but don't know.. I believe he has a T450 with an i3 or i5 right now but I'd love to give him a Thinkpad with dedicated graphics and quad core CPU with 8GB ram something that could do some light video editing with windows 10.. suggestions?
My Collection:

Since he already has a T450, a T440p with a quad-core i7 should be fine. :D
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

For video editing, maybe consider 16gb as minimum RAM. Editing can be RAM hungry, as well as taxing on the CPU (Proc) so that should also guide your choice.

Other than that, a decent size SSD, 256B or larger, will give the machine a good kick up the backside compared to a spinner drive.

I think he has the i5-5200u with intel graphics but it will be awhile before I get it out to him as I'm gonna fix one and send it out..

He only uses Sony Vegas 13 which works better with AMD graphics cards for rendering videos but it will work with Nvidia cards just the program prefers cuda... i think the T430 with dedicated graphics and quad core i7 might be a good choice since the T440p dedicated graphics may be too new to function properly with the program

If I can run Final cut Pro X on my T420 with MacOS 10.14 Mojave, 16GB 1833Mhz RAM and a 4x8 i7 CPU with a base clock of 2Ghz and integrated graphics, then you/he/they should be good to go for SV13 if the T430 / T440/p proc is comparable or better spec'd (being higher gen it should be better anyway!).
