W701ds and friends - power jack issue?

So I have had a W701 that needs a new power jack. I bought the replacement, and on the day it arrived, the power jack on my W701ds failed! And I've seen a few boards for sale that have DC jack issues. What's the issue with these?

How hard was it to replace the jack? Anything special, or just desolder and resolder?

That's pretty much it. No space engineering here, albeit I don't quite get why the jack is not on a connector like in any other series.

It does, and I'm 100% sure it's the jack as the machine still boots off of battery and I have the broken part in my hand

How hot did you have to get your soldering iron to melt the solder?

That was probably lead/tin solder, which melts sooner than that stupid ROHs lead-free junk.
I have a soldering station with adjustable temperature.
Usually the iron sports a very fine tip and temp. is set quite high to ~450C/840F because I like to do things fast.
If you are only a Sunday driver "solderer", keep temp. down to ~375C/700F.

We were at 900F and it wasn't melting (practiced on a dead W701), but I'm wondering if the jack and board were acting as a heatsink. Ended up cutting the jack off, desoldering the rest, then soldering the new one on.

Of course, I'd rather not do that on my $1000 W701ds...

Weirdo. I had no problems really. Soldering iron set at 400C with new tip but had no special feelings with it.
