New Errors since Feb update to Vantage / Battery Gauge

#1 Post by rebop » Sun Mar 08, 2020 10:38 pm

Any insight into the following? :

1. Heartbeat Metrics

Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date: 3/4/2020 12:00:00 AM
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Winten-P51S
Description:
Faulting application name: HeartbeatMetrics.exe, version: 1.0.119.29, time stamp: 0x5e53b251
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.18362.628, time stamp: 0x54734dee

Exception code: 0xe0434352

2. .NET Runtime #1

Log Name: Application
Source: .NET Runtime
Date: 3/4/2020 12:00:00 AM
Event ID: 1026
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Winten-P51S
Description:
Application: HeartbeatMetrics.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.

Exception Info: System.IO.FileLoadException at Lenovo.Modern.Plugins.LenovoBatteryGaugePackage.HeartBeatMetrics.Program.Main

Occurs every day at midnight yet I can find no task that runs that could be handling this. Its on a 3 year old P51S that did not do this until a week or so ago.

Updated Vantage to 4.27.xxxxx. Is there anyway to rollback or repair the Battery Gauge Package?

Appreciate any help.

I'm not a W10 fan, but this problem is well known.
Some say to install the Vantage Enterprise version. https://support.lenovo.com/ie/en/solutions/hf003321
Others just renamed HeartbeatMetrics.exe into HeartbeatMetrics.exe_old without any problems after that.

Thanks.

From what I read, the advantage to the Enterprise 20.xx.xxxx version is stopping updates. But I have not read anywhere about renaming. And references on anyone who has done that? For that matter, any idea what heartbeatmetrics is doing? What is is checking? Or what is triggering the event so maybe I could disable a task or....?

Thanks again.

Any updates? Anyone solve this or update something or rollback something to kill this? Any good discussion of what this is supposed to be doing?

I was helped by the developers over at Lenovo Forums. Took some time and trial and error but they solved the issues for me. Grateful they took the time.

They started with repeating my suggested program rename!
Did you ever do that?
Or install Enterprise Vantage?
Lenovo Forum wrote:We found there may be some reasons that BatteryGuage upgrade process is not correctly process. And some components are not updated to latest version so cause the crash. And we will fix it in next update. And as workaround, you could rename the HeartbeatMetrics.exe to another name to avoid the crash.
In the end it was an awfully convoluted solution that took four Lenovo forum pages.
I have never installed that POS Lenovo Vantage packet (still running W7) on any of my machines.
Glad I'm not involved with W10 either.
