T60p 2007 WUK noisier with Sandisk but quieter with Samsung

#1 Post by Think43p » Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:28 am

I've being using a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB on my T60p 2007WUK and works great but I recently put in a Sandisk SSD plus 120GB just to test and the Sandisk seems to make the T60p fan run a lot louder than with the Samsung. Running it on Win10 with 4 GB RAM and the fan spins faster with the Sandisk than with the Samsung.

Any idea why?

Sandisk SSD PLus is one of the worst ssd's in the market that you can buy. Its controller isn't as powerful as the controller of the samsung evo ssd. Therefore relies more on cpu and puts more stress. I have had two of those sandisk ssd plus 120gb die on me for no reason in the first 3 months. Replace it if you can.

Looking for the T60P 15" :!:

You can buy three 120GB Sandisk Plus drives, and receive three SSDs with different inside parts.
Sandisk Plus is pure potluck and IMHO built from the rejects from other Sandisk models.
OTOH, the Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD is almost unbeatable in performance and quality.

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Thanks...this gives perspective

My next plan is to put these 2 used SSDs (850EVo and SSD Plus) in other unimportant laptops and a new SSD for this one in discussion. Not sure if I should go in for the 850 EVO, 850 PRO, 860 EVO or 860 PRO.

Given the older hardware for the laptop, are there any other SSDs, (aside from the above) that would have faster controllers to abet the older hardware.

I finally decided to go with the 860 EVO.

The last two in contemplation were the 850 EVO and the 860 EVO but for some reason the 850 was far pricier than the 860 and dont know why.
