E series (E430/530) Recovery discs on a T430/530?
Can a set of E-series E430/530 be used on a T430/530 system?
I'm thinking no - too much of a difference in the machines' architecture.

It'll probably work. Official recovery media usually includes 1 or 2 compact discs for the OS and then some supplementary discs for drivers and software. Use the OS ones and forget about drivers and software, pick up drivers from the link at the top of the forum and most of the software is bloatware and outdated either way.
The only useful softwares are (IMO):

Thanks RBS, TPF,
I got the ISOs from terminator, but I've had to go through it twice and now I have to go through a third time because some stupid hidden gotcha is messing winblows updates. Third time tomorrow.

If you use SSD instead of HDD, then don't install (or uninstall) Active Protection.

Is this Windows 7? The vanilla update system is unreasonably slow, you need to manually install some updates for it to function correctly. If your update system is already stuck, disable it and reboot so on the next startup it is ready for manual updates.
See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=120270&start=30
It'll basically tell you to:
1. Install this update https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... server-200
2. Then install this update https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -2008-r2-s
Reboot and Windows Update will work correctly afterward.

Re: E series (E430/530) Recovery discs on a T430/530?
Thanks again.
I eventually want put an mSATA and possibly a regular SSD in the main bay, so I''ll remember that.
3rd time is working. Had to remove norton internet security first, three reboots, and reset winsock. I had to do one or two updates at a time to start with, and then was finally able to do all the net frameworks at once. The stooopid monthly quality roll-ups are still stuck on stupid though. I'm skipping over them for now. If they fail at the end, they will get hidden. I'm pretty sure if I do all the necessary individual ones, then the monthly roll-ups are not needed.
The so called security updates, I'm looking on ms.com (more info link on the updates screen) for each one and when their site gets tired of me doing so (after 30 lookups it insists that I "log in"), I stop and run the ones that are not telemetry related. I found one so far - it is hidden. The oddball one offs went in ok. I'm about halfway through the 200+ updates. Had to install cccleaner to clear the ms cookies in between sessions. darn ms.com After what it considers to be to many lookups on updates, it blows off the info screen after about 2 seconds - not enough time to read what the update is about and tosses up a log in screen. You can delete the browser tab, but the next update does the same thing. So Clear the cookies, install the updates that are "approved" by me, reboot and start again with the next batch.
I took out most of the bloatware already. There are a few more to get rid of, but most are gone.
Then I'll back it up
Then I'll manually port over some of my applications from my T61s, and use pc-mover for the rest.
Then I'll back it up again and restore to a different HDD so I can upgrade That HDD to winblows 10 for tax reporting, and anything new that I can't do without that won't run on W7. I can always put the W7 HDD back in for normal use.
THEN, I can experiment with SSDs and mSATAs.
Then I'll probably get another one for my wife. It's faster, especially with 16GB Ram and the newer processor gen and has a camera. 16x9 screen blows but this one will go in a dock with a large dell U2414 and a 22"Samsung both 16x10. I might get her a T430, if she won't be using the screen too much.
That might not work so well - no docks for the T530 that I know of, especially one with an ultrabay. That sucks. Even without a dock, I can try the 3 screen setup for her. The lid will have to stay up and I'll just make the file backups to an external USB and a thumb drive and not bother with the internal HDD in the ultrabay. They should be the same architecture.
Can we use 3 screens in virtual desktop with the integrated intel graphics if one is the ThinkPad's internal screen, or are we limited to 2 unless the system has the nvidia GPU??

Re: E series (E430/530) Recovery discs on a T430/530?
I got through the "important" updates. I separated out "recommended" and this shortened the list considerably. I'll leave those until I get the rest of it set up.
I won't bother with the E430 discs. These finally worked.
