Screen upgrade for W550s - brightness control

#1 Post by wujstefan » Thu Apr 23, 2020 4:51 am

Hello there,

I have found a B156HAN01.2 panel lying around, and a great shaped cheap W550s to get. Since this system stock display is crappy, a replacement is what comes to my mind.

There are some reports that replacement panels have brightness control issues in those systems. Be it truth?

W550s has an LCD whitelist, causing brightness control on non-approved LCDs to not work, but only under Windows.
Either rewrite the EDID, or install Linux.
Or, check if they can also do LCD-removal etc. on W550s: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/ ... elist-mod/

But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!
