Re: T60 “Upgrade”
I see what you mean, but I am not someone who walks into board meetings. Also I have never been good at following trends and expectations, especially when they don't make sense. Probably a major reason why I am self-employed.cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 1:57 amJust two words, class & refinement.

I also go the handheld route primarily because it is less jarring for the thinkpad, the shoulder acting as a shock absorber and evening out the gait and reducing the effect of foot impact.
This also affords greater protection since the thinkpad has its own dedicated space in a hardened case. Furthermore I match the case to the thinkpad, ranging from an X61 to the W700/1. Not the other way round.
Backpacks, especially those with a hip strap, make it easier for the person. So if you carry either a lot of or heavy items besides the thinkpad a compromise is to use both.
Factors to consider are how replaceable your thinkpads are (think SXGA+ T9300 X61, dual screen models, QXGA T61p- and R500-based frankenpads ..), whether you use large mechanical drives for storage and how replaceable their content is.
This also touches on being "adaptable".
If we adapt to the 16:9 format it is more likely to manifest in poor posture like slouching and physical adaptation like dowager's hump.
If we adapt to the unilateral exercise of carrying a laptop in one hand (which you should alternate) we enhance our stability (the "deep six" muscles interior to the glutes) and strengthen our core (the oblique abdominal muscles). So if the change results in a beneficial response one can readily embrace it, if deleterious reject it.

Go ahead and walk into a board meeting with a backpack...
Not just board meetings, but business meetings, say with a potential client. Do you want to take your ThinkPad and other presentation materials out of a backpack or a leather brief / attache? I also like leather brief / rollaboards. Now I I could only find a slightly wider one for the T61-6463 16:10s
I'm also turned off on backpacks from the monstrosities we used to have to hump around in the Army all those years. Even Colonels had to carry their own baggage in and out of the CZ, and I never learned how to pack light.
