Just bought a T61, anything I should know about them?
Just bought a T61, anything I should know about them?
I just bought a T61 for an FBLA trip to Chattanooga, and I was wondering if there is anything I should know about it.

Welcome to the Forum.
Yeah, on the bottom is a sticker with something like TYPE 6460-07U S/N AB-12345 08/03
It's the last 4 digits 08/03 that are important, it's the manufacturing date in YY/MM (year 2008/month 03).
If your date is older than 08/08, e.g. 07/12, then your nVidia GPU is in danger and can break down any moment.
When you get it, clean up and replace the thermal paste and install the Middleton BIOS.
It's rather big though for a 'travel-laptop'.
But it can take up to 2x4GB=8GB PC2-5300 (or better: PC2-6400) RAM.

Hi make sure that the SSD that you put in doesn't wobble! T61 has 9mm bay and SSD is.. what.. 7mm? Think so. You don't need top of the range SSD - the machine only supports SATA I and with Middleton BIOS SATA II. So your SSD can be not the fastest in the world. But it will be a lot better than HDD

sadly, this user used a proxy server to hide his real IP and location, ALSO his email is in stopforumspam..
if he (or she) contacts me and has an explanation i shall revisit his deactivation..
otherwise, in a few days i will delete this thread and this user..

I don't think a revisit is likely.
