Revived an old Toshiba & IBM TravelStar 2.5 HDD to SSD

I have lots of old Laptop 2.5 HDDs from 90s to early 2000s. The first drive I did was a Toshiba 814MB Disk Drive. I removed the top plate and the IDE pin board and soon the platters and motor for the arm. drilled a hole to remove the platter spindle and screwed in a IDE to CF adapter to the drive case.

I drilled two screw holes for the CF board to go where the old IDE pin board was and lined up the pins of the old one.

The end results is you can still have the classic HDD shell and have SSD and I guess you save the old dead HDDs from ewaste. I know there is this adapter to: https://www.ebay.com/itm/404310341056?h ... BMgIOcoY1i But they are a lot of money if you are getting one for each of your old machines.

I also did this to old 3.5 IDE drives for desktops and just get a real SATA SSD and fit the entire case into the 3.5 metal shell and will then fit into a normal 3.5 HDD bay. Something fun to do if want to keep with old hardware with modern tech. If I remember, someone did a youtube video of a IBM Aptiva with a 1.44MB floppy disk mod with a SD card so it still looks as if using a floppy.

Useful information, never thought of it and it makes %100 sense to use those old hdd shell instead of burning money on cheapo plastic shells. Thanks !
