P71/P72 ram upgrade

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Fri Oct 11, 2024 2:53 pm

Ok looking at getting a p71 or p72 and want to know what exact type of ram works in these machines? Are they the same type for both? I'm looking at going with 32GB.. should I also go with 2x16gb or 4x8gb because there is 4 ram slots on the machine? not much I'll do with this requires more than 32GB so not worried about getting more than 32GB in the future as I'll most likely upgrade the computer when the need for more ram becomes a problem...

Im not sure either denomination of ddr4 is cheaper than the other. I favor higher capacity as a rule since you have room to upgrade.

P71 officially caps at 64gb max, P72 at 128gb. In theory certain brands of crucial 2133mhz could put a P71 at 128gb but i haven’t tried this personally.

Right ok so i was always told 2xram for better Integrated graphics support.. but since I'm not upgrading I might just go 4x8gb depending..

That integrated graphics anecdote is de facto useless, or of no practical benefit.

You might see a difference of 100 3dmarks.

You won’t see a difference in your display refresh rate and your PC won’t be meaningfully faster.

If you care about performance that much, your money and effort would be better spent on a P16.
