Looking to purchase my first ThinkPad. Any general buying tips and reccomended models?

Hello everyone! I am looking to purchase my first Thinkpad! Are there any things i should look out for like locked BIOS for example? Are there any recommended models for a first-time buyer? Any advice is appreciated as i am new to this type of thing.

P.S. Let me know if i am posting correctly or if there is some standard to posting.
