T30 shuts off when toggleing LCD
I initially posted a comment on this thread, but decided to delete it and start a new thread, because now that I have had a chance to sleep on it, the problem is a little different from the topic that was used on that thread.
My friend has T30 that he just picked up. It boots normally, but when he presses FN + F7 to switch to an external monitor, the entire unit loses power. He has to remove the battery and AC adapter to reset it, to get it to turn back on. Initially, I thought that it might have been a driver issue, but it happens in the BIOS, too.
Any suggestions?
He already has a replacement system board on its way, just in case.

I presume the keyboard has been reseated. I’ve seen this shutdown in other situations such as where a USB harddisk draws more than the rated amperage of the USB port. The analogy suggests a short in the external video output plug/circuit. If it is in the output daughterboard (is there such a thing for a T30?) then a new motherboard is not going to help. Just a thought..

The question now is whether the LCD/LCD connections are the problem or not. Can your friend take off the LCD connector and trying running off just the external video monitor? Oh, and just make sure the external monitor itself is OK as well. Let's hope we don't have to resort to Dan's lateral-thinking-to-the-extreme suggestion!
